Written by Shaw in the early 1900s, the 'The Genuine Islam' was an attempted apology to Muslim audiences for centuries of Western colonialism. Shaw acknowledged that Westerners had abused and denigrated their culture, but he also argued that they took their actions out of ignorance rather than wilful malice. He highlighted both his Christian and socialist beliefs to justify his understanding of Islam without any noticeable fault in the religion itself. "A gentle man who has introduced in this century a new light in literature," British Prime Minister Lloyd George once admiringly said about Shaw. This article is about the PDF file that was included with The Genuine Islam when published back in 1903-1904 under George Bernard Shaw's name for an international audience. The article titled "The Genuine Islam" is about his understanding of Islam. The article has three parts. They are "The Religion of Humanity", "The Conduct of Human Life", and "The State." Shaw said that he wrote the book because he wanted to explain his understanding of what Islam is. He says, "...I am told that you wish me to explain my theory of life, especially as it touches Muhammadanism, and I have therefore called my address 'The Genuine Islam'." Shaw first discusses the religion of humanity. He thinks that one must have humanity first before any other religion or belief can be practiced or even thought off for that matter. He also argues that no man should harm another man. And he feels that all men are equal. But Shaw says that humans can break these rules of humanity, for example if it is more convenient, or necessitate the need to be stronger or more powerful. The next chapter of "The Genuine Islam" was Shaw's explanation of how to conduct human life in a good way. He believes that the most important rules in life are clearness, sincerity, and common sense. And he believed that if one adheres to these rules of conduct then they will bring happiness in one's life. Finally Shaw gives his views on the state. He believes that one should never impose your will on another person. And if the state is to enforce its rule then it should not take anything from one person without giving something in return to them. Shaw also believes that the state should focus only on matters of law and order, for example if anyone who violates a law of the land is going to be punished. Shaw believes that "a government which tries to do good work in an unimaginative way, without contributing anything to its subjects' happiness or sanity or contentment, must be a bad government". The General Linguistics Association did a code analysis of this article from "The Genuine Islam" and found out some interesting things about Bernard Shaw's writing style and his audience. It did not have any grammatical errors nor did it have any spelling errors. It did have some orthographic errors that were quite obvious, for example "dealt" was written as "delt". Also, the article did include Shaw's own spelling of the Arabic word "Allah", which he believed was "Alahuu", this is thought to be Shaw's way of making it more distinguished. The article also included a capital A in the word Allah, although Shaw had spelled Alahuu with a capital A throughout his article. cfa1e77820
